01
Renewably Harvested:
People often overlook the minimal environmental impact of carefully managed tree harvesting. For every cubic foot of trees cut down, an average of 1.66 cubic feet is replanted, ensuring a harvest rate lower than the average growth rate. Despite hardwood trees taking up to 60 years to mature, the current supply can last at least the next 100 years, making wood a renewable resource.
02
Low Pollution & Wastage
Many manufacturing processes for floor coverings result in significant waste and environmental impact. Wood and stone require the least energy to produce, with minimal waste, as wood chips and sawdust are used for various composite products. This efficient use allows wood producers to utilize 99% of each harvested tree. In contrast, carpet, linoleum, and tile production involve more energy and chemicals.
03
Life-Long
With proper care, wood floors can last over 100 years, allowing for refinishing and restaining if needed. In comparison, linoleum and laminate have a lifespan of 15-25 years, and carpet lasts about eight to ten years. Stone and tile can also last over 100 years but lack the refinishing option. Hardwood is durable, showing minimal wear and tear over time, providing long-term value despite the initial cost difference.
04
Climate Friendly
The increasing demand for sustainable solutions emphasizes considering the environmental footprint in large-scale projects. Wood, being carbon-neutral, absorbs carbon dioxide and produces oxygen, maintaining its carbon-neutral status even after harvesting. Sustainable harvesting practices contribute to the low environmental impact of hardwood floors.
05
Recycle
Hardwoods are versatile and can be reused for flooring, decking, furniture, and other building projects. They can be sanded and restained to match different design plans. If too damaged for flooring, wood can be recycled for projects like furniture, accent walls, or other decorative features. Reclaimed wood, exposed to the elements, is gaining popularity, and wood, being biodegradable, can also be burned for fuel.
